The Ex-Students’ Association provides a significant link between past students who received their catholic education provided by the Marist Brothers and the current Marist community, teaching staff and student population of the College. This year the Ex-Students’ Association celebrated its 91st year of existence.
The Association was pleased to again make a donation to the College to fund a special bursary controlled by the College Headmaster which assists with education expenses for financially disadvantaged families who have sons at the College. This bursary is named the “John Hennessey Ex-Students’ Bursary”, honouring an ‘Old Boy’ of the College who was a long serving teacher at MCR and a gentleman who served for many years on the Ex-Students’ Committee.
The current committee was elected at the AGM:
President: Michael Daley
Vice President: Adam Poche
Secretary: Luke MacNamara
Treasurer: Matthew Capon
Committee members: Kyle Howes, David Power, Mark Woolford, Ben Bayot, Clinton McDonald, Steve Doran, Mario Pasciuto, Phil Davis, Adam Kryslovic, Sharon Elliot, Peter Rowswell, Shane Douglas, Jamie Grant.
A range of events continue to strengthen the connection between the ‘Old Boys’ and the current College community. The long standing tradition to honour those ex-students who have served at all wars and in particular, to honour those men who gave the ultimate sacrifice for their country, continues at the College each ANZAC Day.
Teams representing the ex-students compete on an annual basis against current senior students in Basketball (The Daniel Romeo Cup) and Debating. Each year these competitive endeavours are contested enthusiastically and in a great spirit.
The Ex-Students Association hold an annual mass and luncheon which is always well attended. The day begins with Mass at the College, followed by senior student leaders providing a tour of the College facilities, which is always appreciated by visiting ex-students. Coogee Surf Club provides a great location for the luncheon which follows the morning celebrations.
Many graduating classes are represented within the ranks of the association and the College continues to provide great support each year.
